Domains under the .np ccTLD are registered on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to these terms and conditions.

Domain names must be at least 3 characters long and may contain only letters, numbers and hyphens. The first and last characters may not be a hyphen.

Companies and organisations may only choose names based on their own name, product, service or brand. Personal domain names must reflect the applicant's real name.

Eligible registrants are entities registered in Nepal, Nepali citizens, and foreign companies with verifiable local operations (branch or liaison office, joint venture, partnership or licensing arrangement).

The restricted zones .edu.np, .gov.np and .mil.np are limited to educational institutions, government bodies and the military respectively, and require supporting documents.

All applicants must provide scanned copies of original documents for verification. Documents must be legible, complete and current.

The domain name must be an exact match, abbreviation or acronym of the registrant's name or trademark, or otherwise closely and substantially connected to the registrant.

Names containing offensive, generic or inflammatory words will not be registered.

Names based only on a surname or caste name cannot be registered as personal domains.

Organisations must provide a company, firm or partnership registration certificate, or a PAN registration certificate for non-incorporated entities, together with a request letter on official letterhead with stamp and authorised signature.

Foreign entities must provide a branch or liaison office registration certificate, or a Social Welfare Council affiliation certificate.

Individuals must provide valid identification: Nepali citizenship certificate, passport, driving licence, voter ID card, Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) ID card or Nepali resident visa.

Accepted formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF and SVG, up to 800 KB per document.

Applications usually take 3–4 working days or more to process, depending on the number of applications in the queue.

The registry may reject applications that do not meet the registration policy.

Common reasons for rejection are missing or unreadable documents, a name that does not match the applicant, the wrong zone, invalid DNS settings, and other breaches of policy.

Registration, renewal, transfer and restore fees are charged in Nepali rupees (NPR) at the prices published by the registry at the time of the transaction.

Payment is accepted through eSewa, Khalti and debit or credit cards processed by Stripe. Accredited registrars pay from their prepaid registry credit.

A registration deleted within the 5-day add grace period, or a renewal deleted within the 5-day renew grace period, is refunded. Other fees are non-refundable.

Domains are registered for whole years and must be renewed before they expire.

An expired domain enters a 45-day auto-renew grace period during which it can be renewed at the normal price. It then enters a 30-day redemption period during which it can only be restored for a restore fee.

After the redemption period the domain is pending deletion for 5 days and is then released for registration by others.

Every registered domain must have valid nameserver (NS) records. Nameservers must be given as fully qualified domain names (FQDNs), not IP addresses.

At least two nameservers are required for redundancy.

The registry may suspend domains whose DNS configuration is invalid or not working.

The registrant confirms that the use of the domain name does not infringe any trademark or breach any applicable law.

The registrant agrees to keep contact information and documents accurate and current throughout the registration period.

The registrant acknowledges that the registry does not screen domain names for possible third-party intellectual property infringement and has no legal obligation to do so.

If a formal complaint about illegal activity associated with a domain is received, the registry may suspend the domain pending investigation.

Domains may also be suspended if the registrant fails to keep valid documents or to comply with the registration policy.

Disputes over domain names are to be resolved between the parties involved. The registry complies with legally binding orders of competent authorities.

The registry is not liable for any loss of use, business interruption, or any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from or related to domain registration services.

The registry works to keep its DNS infrastructure highly available but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

The registry may change these terms and conditions at any time. Registrants are notified of material changes at their registered email address.

Continued use of the domain after such notice means you accept the changed terms.
