Search the help articles or contact the registry team
Go to Domains → Register and search for the name. If it is available, choose the registration period, select your contacts and pay. The domain is created at the .np registry as soon as payment succeeds; zones that need documents (such as .edu.np or .gov.np) are activated after review.
Ask your current registrar for the domain's auth code and make sure the domain is not transfer-locked. Enter the auth code under Domains → Transfer. The transfer completes within 5 days unless the current registrar rejects it.
No. Registrant contact details are redacted from public WHOIS and RDAP by default, unless you choose to publish them or disclosure is required by law.
Turn on auto-renew on the domain page to renew automatically before expiry, or renew manually at any time. After expiry there is a 45-day grace period to renew at the normal price, then a 30-day redemption period in which the domain can only be restored for a fee.
Changes are published to the NPDNS authoritative nameservers as soon as you save them. Resolvers that cached the old answer keep using it until its TTL expires.
A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV, CAA and PTR. DNSKEY and DS records are managed from the DNSSEC page.
For stable records use 3600 s (1 hour) or 86400 s (24 hours). Before a planned change, such as a migration, lower it to 300 s (5 minutes). A lower TTL means more DNS queries.
Open DNS Records, select the domain and add a record of type MX. Enter your mail server's host name as the value and set a priority (10, 20 and so on). Lower numbers have higher priority.
DNSSEC adds cryptographic signatures to DNS records and prevents spoofing and cache poisoning. We recommend it for every domain, especially those handling sensitive data.
For zones hosted on NPDNS nameservers, the DS record is published in the .np zone for you. If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, add your DS record on the DNSSEC page so the registry can publish it. Until then, validating resolvers treat the zone as unsigned.
ECDSA P-256 with SHA-256 (algorithm 13) for both the KSK and the ZSK. It is the widely recommended choice: strong security with compact keys and signatures.
Go to API Keys → Create API key. Give it a name, select only the scopes it needs, and optionally add an IP allowlist and an expiry date. Copy the key straight away — it is shown only once.
Yes. When you exceed the limit the API responds with HTTP 429. Wait and retry with exponential backoff, and keep bulk jobs at a steady request rate.
Yes. Webhooks notify your endpoint about domain events such as registration, renewal, transfer and DNS changes. Set them up on the Team page and verify each request with its signing secret.
At registration, at each renewal and when an incoming transfer completes. With auto-renew, the renewal is charged before the expiry date and you receive reminder emails beforehand. All amounts are in Nepali rupees (NPR).
eSewa, Khalti and debit or credit cards (processed securely by Stripe). Registrars pay from their prepaid registry credit.
A new registration deleted within the 5-day add grace period is refunded, as is a renewal deleted within the 5-day renew grace period. Completed transfers are not refundable.
